Doing My Part To Save Taxpayer Money

So there has been a great deal of hullabaloo over the government flying around New York City with Air Force One and a fighter jet, trying to capture a Kodak moment of the presidential 747 hob-nobbing with the Statue of Liberty, and causing a bit of a panic as a result. Apparently we need photos of the presidents jet flying near national landmarks. I'm not sure why.

This is not a political issue to me, so I don't fault the White House for this error in judgment, but it is a prime example of the wasteful ways our government uses our money.

An article in The New York Daily News today, made it abundantly clear that, with modern technology, our government could have made a photo of Air Force One and the Statue of Liberty for far less than the $300,000 it cost to fly two jets around NYC, not to mention the environmental cost of this endeavor for the sole purpose of a publicity photo. Did they have excess carbon credits to use up?

Anyway, the New York Daily News also invited readers to create their own publicity photos of Air Force One and submit them to the paper (check the story out here).

I had thought of making a picture of me posing with AF1 as a gag when this whole pseudo-crisis happened. I'm not very good at using Photoshop, so I didn't bother trying. When I saw the Daily News piece, I knew that I had to try.

Unfortunately, the NY Daily News only wanted images from around New York. I discovered this fact after I had already made mine. I didn't want my 15 minutes of back-breaking effort to go to waste, so I decided that I would share the fruits of my labor here.

Without further ado, I not-so-proudly present Air Force One on its visit to two points of national interest, the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Grand Island National Recreation Area. It would appear that it has just taken off from Munising International Airport.
If anyone else is so inclined to make thier own photos of AF1, you can send them to me, if you want to, and I'll post them here.

  1. This is amusing. Believe it or not, nevermind that, it's true so believe it...AF1 flew over your childhood home, I saw it.

  2. I guess they'll need to schedule Ma & Pa Braver's house for another photo op.
